Yesterday my 70 years old 99% blocked main heart artery was cleared for me. This had the effect to keenly focus my thoughts. What is the pressing challenge of our times? With farm work set aside for rehab, I will try here to put those thoughts to pen and paper.
Watching the hospital teams work in real time on the monitor, I could see the pencil lead size flow of blood through the widow maker artery grow to adequate size before my eyes. I find myself grateful, amazed, humbled, and wondering what matters in life. What have I done of moment with my life, and what should I do with this extended lease that I have been given? Thoughts and memories hit me from all sides. It seems that one does what seems like a good idea at the time to confront the challenges of that time. It seems that God, family, and friends easily top the list of importance, yet projects along the way seemed all consuming at the time. I think that is the way it is supposed to be. All along the beast was crouching at my door and I did what I could to master my animal nature, with mixed success. I think that is true for us all. Perhaps those are the most important struggles.
Our American culture too has struggled and changed. Some for the good, some not so much. I remember my father speaking of WW2. He said, “If we had not succeeded, you would not know who your parents are.” And here we are today, having won both the Cold War and WW2, and we are struggling against our own government and schools over who is the primary teacher of our children. Many bedrock American concepts are under assault; private property, free speech, freedom of thought, security in papers, equality under the Law. Our animal nature still craves power, comfort, and superiority. We need to channel that energy into lifting all of us to a higher plain through freedom and respect for rule of Law.
I am seeing an analogy between my blocked blood flow and America’s. What is America’s critical blood flow? We have or can create more money. The same for oil or ingenuity. The critical flow we lack, the severe flow that is blocked, is Truth! It threatens our ability to speak and make decisions between one another. We must master our animal nature and look to our better Angels where Truth reigns if we are to keep the American experiment alive for our posterity. It is our turn to tend the American culture. This is the important task that consumes our attention today.
Donald Trump has been demonized by the blockage of truth for nine years now. Witness the Inspector General investigation report of the Russia hoax, the veracity of the Biden laptop, the unfulfilled assertions of Adam Shiff, the knowingly out of context quotations, and even the unprecedented lawfare engaged in by the Department of Justice. Donald Trump does like hyperbole, and I suppose that does sell soap, but on the issues he has been on the side of unvarnished truth.
On the Democrat ticket side we are expected to accept, by our duplicitous traditional media sources, that vocal supporters for socialist change are now moderate in their views. In fact we are expected to believe that they even support many of Donald Trump’s popular ideas, at least until the election. Just look at the ABC moderator’s behavior in the recent debate. Were their questions evenhanded? What do you think of their fact checking?
It takes work to sift out the truth concerning our choices this November, but it is all discernable. Our children, even civility itself implore you to keep watch of your gate every morning as perchance Wisdom may linger there and lead you to Truth. And the Truth shall set you free!
